So sorry to hear this sad news. I knew Sharon through ISOQOL and CAHS and we had similar research interests. Sharon was a true pioneer - there were very few women of her generation who achieved what she did, and it was definitely not an easy road. Memories of Sharon continue to inspire.

Dale and family
I am sorry to read this news and I know it has been a tough road for her and you and your family these last years. You shared a wonderful marriage and have been such a great team for this enviable amount of time. If ever a life was lived to potential Sharon enjoyed it, and was recognized for it. The world is a better place for having Sharon and her team in it. Sympathy and love

I am so sorry to hear of Sharon's passing. I send my love to her family knowing how hard it is to say goodbye. I loved sitting in Gram's living room and having Sharon & Dale drop by for a visit - sharing fantastic stories and great laughs. She was an incredible woman and truly inspiring. She was humble - never boastful but had so much to be boastful about. A loving and devoted husband and family and a tremendous career.
A life very well lived.
All my love,
Jacqueline Cyr

I met Sharon as a PhD trainee of the Canadian Stroke Network. Sharon had a wealth of knowledge and expertise in stroke rehabilitation and quality of life. I was thankful for the opportunity to learn from her. My best to her family.

Sharon was one of the first two rehabilitation specialists added to the newly formed Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and was diligent in honoring her membership responsibilities. It was always recognized that if she was asked to take on a task it would be completed expeditiously and with skill. But my favorite memory takes me back to the 1970s. I was a junior faculty member at Dalhousie University and had just been appointed to the Internal Medicine Examination Committee of the Royal College. It was a bit of a shock when I arrived at the first meeting of the committee in Montreal to discover the room filled with middle-aged males and I wondered if I would survive. Dale invited me home to dinner with his family and I had my inaugural meeting with Sharon then. The meal was absolutely delicious, the boys delightful, and I began to relax. Imagine my surprise when she asked if I would like to stay with them rather than in a hotel and given the ambience, I was happy to accept. I spent a week with the Dauphinees on that occasion and was treated like royalty by this amazing woman who was a lovely hostess, a great cook, and clearly a dedicated scientist. Over the years, I saw both Dale and Sharon on many occasions and we even had a great week together when evaluating the Kazahkstan medical education system. Dale and Sharon were inseparable and provided a superb model of a happy marriage to all who knew them.

Sharon was an inspiration to me and to many of my peers. She encouraged me to pursue graduate studies in epidemiology and was an amazing mentor. I have so many fond memories of her and how she was so sensible and was able to 'cut to the chase' in so many meetings. Her intellect, organizational skills and good humor helped all of us advance. My sincere condolences to the entire family.

I fondly remember Dr Dauphinee as she inspired a group of 3rd year PT and Ot students to learn research methods with her optimism and infectious laugh.
Worlds collide - she was also my brother's scouting leader 10 years earlier.
Sending my condolences.

I was so sorry to read Sharon's obituary in Saturday's Globe. She was an extraordinary individual--a respected colleague and a cherished friend. I remember clearly the first time I met Sharon--we both had just had our second child and were taking them to a park in Westmount. That was the beginning of an amazing relationship--as colleagues in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy, as mothers of kids who shared swimming lessons at McGill, as graduate students in McGill's Epidemiology department, and as friends who shared recipes, jokes, and skiing at the Laurentian Lodge. Sharon was warm, caring, funny, and generous with her time, expertise, compassion and talents. Numerous students benefited from her commitment to excellence, as did her collaborators and research colleagues. She was a true trailblazer in rehabilitation research and served as an amazing example of a woman who balanced her career and professional aspirations with her commitment as a wife and mother. I can only imagine the loss that Dale, Brent and Trevor and her grandchildren are now experiencing and hope they find some comfort in knowing how many lives Sharon touched. Her impact on individuals and the profession of physical therapy will live on, thereby creating a remarkable living legacy.

Hello Dale and your sons
I am saddened to read Sharon's obituary in the Montreal Gazette, but also thankful for having had Sharon as a colleague all the years at McGill.
I see that the obituary mentioned her measurement course, and indeed I remember it with great fondness, and learned from it every year.
Ann Marie and I also remember Sharon's and your hospitality at your home, and how lively those occasions were.
I am delighted that the opening sentences of the obituary mentioned what to me was 'core' in Sharon: a very positive outlook, and nothing seemed to daunt her!
She will continue to inspire us.
With my best wishes
Jim Hanley (epi/biostat McGill... and proud to have been an associate member in her school)

I had the opportunity to meet Sharon (and Dale) through physiotherapy friends from St. Andrews and Toronto. I met Sharon initially in Montreal on my way to the international physiotherapy conference in Tel Aviv. A colleague from St Andrews (Nancy Ross) arranged for us to stay with Sharon and Dale on our way from Fredericton. I have to admit that I was in awe and somewhat intimidated by Sharon's long list of academic and research accomplishments and i wasnt sure how comfortable i would feel in her home. I quickly realized that she was a kind, warm Maritimer who welcomed everyone with open arms and gentle humor. Subsequent encounters in St Andrews confirmed that at heart she was a beautiful down to earth soul. My sincere condolences to Dale and family.

Dr. Sharon Wood Dauphinee was one of my professors of physical therapy at McGill. I am so thankful that she had paved the way for PT’s to be able to wear pants and fore go pantyhose and heels! I appreciated meeting and speaking with her spouse Dr. Dale at the Passamaquoddy lodge and reading a book about their life stories and accomplishments, full of humour and heart. Thinking of you at this most difficult time.

Mrs. Dauphinee was my good friend Trevor's wonderful mom. I remember fondly one day when I was around 11 or 12, I visited their family house in Westmount and she served me a meal. Cuisine was very different in my home so my clueless brain couldn’t figure out why Trev's mom gave me cold soup to eat, but I also didn't want to be a rude kid and complain. Mrs. Dauphinee must have seen the confusion on my face and very kindly explained to me what gazpacho was! It was delicious. Thanks Mrs. Dauphinee. Condolences to all that loved and cared for her.

Sharon was so important during my undergrad studies in occupational therapy at McGill. She taught us the first steps in research design and she inspired me so much that I followed her path a few years later as an academic researcher. Sharon was a generous person. I had the chance to work with Dale from 2010-12 at the health informatics research group, and we spent such nice moments with Sharon. My deepest thoughts for your family. Sharon will be remembered and honored in our hearts. Claudine
